I try to visit area repositories in rotation on a monthly basis. These include the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord, the NEHGS in Boston, the Boston Public Library, the Massachusetts State Archives, and the NARA facilities in Waltham. This allows me to maximize value to my clients by splitting travel expenses in those cases where I can pull records for multiple clients on a single trip. Where faster turn-around times are needed, or for other area repositories not in my rotation, I charge my hourly rate for travel time, $0.54/mile (IRS rate for 2016) and actual tolls and parking.
